Digital Literacy Class

Digital Literacy Program for Refugees and Immigrants

The Digital Literacy Program at Refugee Women’s Center helps refugees and immigrants develop the essential technology skills they need to participate more fully in their communities, pursue educational opportunities, and achieve greater independence. Designed for individuals who are new to computers and digital technology, the program provides hands-on instruction in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment.

Through our Conversations with Refugees English program, participants will receive a laptop to support their ongoing learning and personal development. As part of this initiative, participants will attend digital literacy classes where they will learn the basic functions of a laptop, including how to use the keyboard and touchpad, navigate the desktop, open and manage programs, and save and retrieve files. They will also learn how to connect to Wi-Fi, create and manage an email account, conduct online searches, and participate in virtual classes using Zoom.

In addition, participants will learn to use their laptops to search for employment opportunities, access online English-language learning programs, and find important information and resources.

By combining access to technology with practical, hands-on instruction, the program ensures that participants have both the equipment and the skills needed to use it effectively. These foundational digital skills will help refugees and immigrants strengthen their English proficiency, expand their employment opportunities, access essential services, and build confidence and independence in an increasingly digital world.
